Cake Base
  • 1 loaf Angel food cake Use store-bought for convenience or make it from scratch.
Strawberry Mixture
  • 2 cups Fresh strawberries, sliced Frozen strawberries can be used if fresh ones are out of season.
  • 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or berry liqueur Optional but adds a delightful kick.
Cream Cheese Filling
  • 8 ounces Cream cheese, softened Make sure it is at room temperature.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar Brown sugar can be used for a caramel flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Real vanilla is preferred.
  • 1 cup Heavy cream For whipping to a stiff consistency.

Preparation
  1. Prepare the angel food cake according to package instructions, or bake from scratch and cool completely.
  2. In a bowl, toss sliced strawberries with Grand Marnier and let sit for about 15 minutes to macerate.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture.
  6. Assemble the trifle by layering chunks of angel food cake, spoonfuls of macerated strawberries, and cream cheese filling.
  7. Repeat layering until all ingredients are used or the dish is full.
  8. Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

Feel free to adjust the ratios of ingredients. Add fresh mint, graham cracker crumbs, or chocolate shavings for extra flair. For serving, consider using individual cups for portion control.
