  • 1 lb Ground beef Aim for about 20% fat for juiciness.
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 4 pieces Burger buns
  • 4 slices Cheese (optional) Add cheese if desired.
  • to taste Toppings (e.g., lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles) Load up your burger with any toppings you like.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the grill to high heat.
  2. Form ground beef into balls, about 4-6 ounces each.
  3. Place the balls on the grill and immediately smash them flat with a burger press to about half an inch thick.
  4. Season the patties with salt and pepper.
Cooking
  1. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges are browned.
  2. Flip the burgers and add cheese if using.
  3. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
  4. Serve on burger buns with your desired toppings.

Notes

Don't overwork the ground beef when forming the balls. Let burgers rest for a minute after cooking to retain juices.
