Preparation
- Preheat the grill to high heat.
- Form ground beef into balls, about 4-6 ounces each.
- Place the balls on the grill and immediately smash them flat with a burger press to about half an inch thick.
- Season the patties with salt and pepper.
Cooking
- Cook for 2-3 minutes until the edges are browned.
- Flip the burgers and add cheese if using.
- Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Serve on burger buns with your desired toppings.
Notes
Don't overwork the ground beef when forming the balls. Let burgers rest for a minute after cooking to retain juices.
