Million Dollar Italian Lasagna

Ingredients
  

Pasta and Cheese
  • 12 oz Lasagna noodles Do not use no-boil kinds.
  • 15 oz Ricotta cheese Use whole milk ricotta for creaminess.
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan cheese Get the real deal, not powdered.
Meat and Vegetables
  • 1 lb Ground beef or sausage A mix of both is recommended.
  • 1 medium Yellow onion Finely chopped.
  • 3-5 cloves Garlic Crushed or minced.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 28 oz Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce Good-quality brand recommended.
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning Check label for quality.
  • to taste Salt & pepper Sea salt if desired.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions; drain.
  3. In a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until soft.
Cooking Meat Sauce
  1. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned.
  2. Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Italian seasoning; simmer for about 15 minutes.
Cheese Mixture
  1. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, one cup of mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
Assembly
  1. In a baking dish, layer noodles, meat sauce, and cheese mixture. Repeat layers, finishing with meat sauce and a topping of the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  2. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

If you accidentally use too much ricotta, make it into a dip later. Always reserve a little parmesan to sprinkle on top before serving. Serve with garlic bread and a salad for a complete meal.
