Ingredients
  

Meatball Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup plain breadcrumbs No fancy stuff; use what's available.
  • 1/2 cup milk Can substitute with water.
  • 1 medium yellow onion, grated Brings flavor; expect some tears.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced More garlic, more flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano Or 2 tablespoons fresh, if available.
  • 2 teaspoons dried mint Yes, it adds unique flavor.
  • 1.5 teaspoons kosher salt Use sea salt if preferred.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Add according to taste.
  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef Can substitute with turkey if desired.
Herb Butter
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted Enhances flavor significantly.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs Such as oregano, mint, dill, chives, and/or parsley.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Mix together the breadcrumbs, milk, and grated onion in a large bowl.
  3. Add the egg, minced garlic, dried oregano, dried mint, kosher salt, and black pepper to the bowl and stir everything together.
  4. Add the ground beef and mix well, ideally using your hands.
  5. Scoop the mixture onto a rimmed baking sheet, or form them by hand.
  6. Mix the melted butter with the chopped fresh herbs and spoon this over your meatballs.
Cooking
  1. Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes, watching for golden brown color.
  2. Serve the meatballs drizzled with the juices from the pan.

Notes

Wear an apron to avoid mess and consider adding feta cheese for an authentic flavor. Bake time may vary. Serve with a fresh Greek salad if desired.
