- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
- Add the spaghetti and cook until al dente, usually around 8–10 minutes.
- While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced garlic and sauté until fragrant and golden, about 2-3 minutes.
- Stir in the red pepper flakes.
- Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta cooking water, then drain the spaghetti.
- Add the drained spaghetti to the skillet with the garlic oil and toss to coat.
- Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Stir in the chopped parsley.
- Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Notes
Don't skimp on the olive oil; a good quality oil is key to this dish. Use a large skillet for tossing, and keep a close eye on the garlic to prevent burning.
