Preparation
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbles form.
- Add flour, salt, and melted butter to the bowl and mix. Knead for 5 to 7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has risen, divide it into 8 pieces and roll each into a rope. Wrap around each hot dog and pinch the ends.
Cooking
- Boil 6 cups of water with baking soda. Carefully dip each pretzel dog into the boiling water for about 30 seconds.
- Transfer to the prepared baking sheet, brush each with the beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
Use a stand mixer to make mixing easier, don’t rush the dough's rising time, and serve with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
