Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix chopped nuts with cinnamon.
- Brush a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 8 sheets of phyllo pastry, brushing each with butter.
- Sprinkle a layer of the nut mixture over the pastry.
- Repeat layering phyllo and nuts until you use up your filling, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo on top.
- Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife.
Baking and Finishing
- Bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine water, sugar, and honey; bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Pour the syrup over the baklava right after it comes out of the oven.
- Allow to cool and soak before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. You can refrigerate as well, just let it return to room temperature before serving.
