- In a medium pot, combine the strawberries, rhubarb, and sugar. Cook over medium heat until the fruits start to soften.
- Keep an eye on the pot to avoid it bubbling over.
- Add the applesauce and lemon juice, stir well, and bring to a simmer.
- Let it cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- If desired, stir in the cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Remove from heat and let cool. Serve warm or chill in the refrigerator before serving.
Notes
For a smoother texture, blend the finished sauce. This sauce is excellent on ice cream, pancakes, or yogurt. A sturdy spatula and a good stainless steel pot are recommended.
